Healthy Retreat Catering in Marbella: Plant-Based Menus and a Healthy Drinks Bar

A retreat is a promise: a few days away from the noise, to think clearly, reconnect and come home with more energy than you left with. Food plays a bigger part in keeping that promise than most organisers expect. Heavy lunches lead to sleepy afternoon sessions, sugar crashes kill concentration, and one glass of wine too many at dinner can blur the next morning. At Campo, we cook for wellness, yoga and leadership retreats in villas around Marbella, and over time we have built a simple philosophy: food should keep energy steady, taste generous, and never feel like a diet.

Here is how we approach healthy retreat catering in Marbella, from the first welcome drink to the farewell brunch.

Why food matters so much on a retreat

Retreat days are intense. Participants sit in long sessions, move, breathe, reflect and talk for hours. What they eat directly affects how present they can be. In our experience, the best retreat menus share three things: balanced meals with enough protein and fibre to avoid energy dips, lighter portions spread across the day rather than two heavy meals, and plenty of colour and freshness, because people simply feel better eating food that looks alive.

What a healthy retreat day can look like

Every programme is different, but this rhythm works beautifully for retreats where sessions start early and run into the afternoon:

  • Light breakfast (around 9:00): açaí bowls, chia pudding, warm oat porridge with roasted figs, fresh fruit and a morning ginger-turmeric shot.
  • Healthy brunch (late morning): a generous spread of around ten dishes, from avocado carpaccio and green shakshuka to quinoa salads, hummus, seasonal fruit and organic sourdough.
  • Afternoon boost (around 15:00): fruit skewers, raw energy balls or carrot cake bites, with a smoothie or a mushroom latte for focus.
  • Dinner: a refined three-course plated dinner, light enough to sleep well and special enough to feel like a celebration.

Replacing a classic lunch with a late, abundant brunch is one of our favourite tricks: it fits naturally between morning sessions, avoids the post-lunch slump and gives everyone time to talk around the table.

Plant-based does not mean plain

Many retreat organisers ask us for vegetarian or fully plant-based menus. Our goal is that nobody misses meat or fish. A few dishes our guests regularly ask the recipe for:

  • Ajoblanco, the chilled Andalusian almond soup, with a fresh kiwi tartare, dill and lime.
  • Vegan ceviche with citrus, pomegranate, radish, coriander and crispy plantain chips.
  • Pear sorrentini with a truffled plant-based parmesan cream, poached pear and walnuts.
  • Teriyaki-glazed tofu with minted pea purée, confit fennel and courgette tagliatelle.
  • Lentil and aubergine dahl with garam masala, coconut and homemade naan.
  • Dark chocolate mousse, completely plant-based, with sea salt and cacao nibs.

A Healthy Drinks Bar instead of alcohol

More and more retreats are alcohol-free, and we love it. Instead of simply offering water and soft drinks, we set up a Healthy Drinks Bar that runs all day and becomes one of the highlights of the stay:

  • Morning rituals: ginger-turmeric shots, ceremonial matcha latte and golden milk.
  • Gut-friendly ferments: house kombucha, water kefir and tepache, the Mexican fermented pineapple drink.
  • Hydration: fresh coconut water with lime and mint, infused waters and iced hibiscus tea.
  • Cold-pressed juices: a green reset of cucumber, apple and spinach, or a ruby glow of beetroot, orange and ginger.
  • Afternoon focus: a mushroom latte with lion’s mane, reishi and cacao.
  • Evening mocktails: a kombucha and ginger spritz, or a pink grapefruit and rosemary tonic, served in proper glassware.

Most of these drinks are prepared in our kitchen in the days before the retreat, so they are fresh, low in sugar and far more interesting than anything from a bottle.

Allergies, intolerances and special diets

Retreat groups often include gluten-free, dairy-free, vegan or allergy guests. Because we cook everything from scratch, adapting is part of the job, not an extra. We simply ask organisers to share the dietary list around two weeks before arrival, and we label buffets clearly so everyone can serve themselves with confidence.

Where we cook

Our atelier is in Fuengirola and our team cooks on site in villas and retreat venues across the Costa del Sol: Marbella and the Golden Mile, Sierra Blanca, Benahavís, Ojén, Istán, Estepona and Mijas. We bring the ingredients, the equipment and the service team, and we leave the kitchen spotless.

Tips for retreat organisers

  • Share your draft programme early: meal times shape the whole menu.
  • Think about silent or mindful meals, and tell us in advance so service stays discreet.
  • Plan one festive moment, like a welcome dinner or a farewell brunch, to bring the group together.
  • Confirm the final number of guests around two weeks before the retreat.
